Health & Safety, Infection Control & Basic Fire Safety Training

This combined half day training session aims to provide both new staff on induction, or existing staff needing update training, with a clear understanding of health & safety, infection control and fire safety issues within their work environment

Health & Safety

  • The principles of health and safety legislation and how to apply them in the workplace
  • Your responsibilities and the responsibilities of others
  • The need for, and your role in risk assessments
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (C.OS.H.H.)

Infection control

  • Legislation for Infection Control
  • Identifying causes of infections and how they are spread
  • Correct handwashing procedures - how, why, when! (incl. practical exercise with UV light box)
  • How to protect yourselves and others (PPE) when dealing with clinical waste, spillages and laundries
  • C.O.S.H.H.
  • Elements of food hygiene awareness

This course can be delivered as a stand-alone course and extended to cover the need for increased levels of infection (e.g. for vulnerable clients/high-risk settings, aseptic technique, blood-borne viruses and so on)

Fire Safety – basic awareness

  • To gain a basic understanding of fire safety  
  • The fire process; risks and hazards
  • Principles of safe evacuation
  • The importance of understanding your organisation's fire policies, procedures and evacuation process

This course can be delivered as a stand-alone session and cover inhouse evacuation procedures.
