Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool
(M.U.S.T.) Assessment and Implementation
This half day course is suitable for senior care staff and managers who are responsible for client/patient assessment and care plan implementation.
It is now a requirement under the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Judgement framework outcome 5, the “Essential Standards of Quality and Safety” and the NHS national CQUINs for Continuing Health Care (CHC) provision, that all care staff receive appropriate training and supervision in relation to nutrition, hydration M.U.S.T.
(An additional, separate course is offered for general care staff in relating to Meeting Nutritional needs)

Course Objectives
For candidates to:
- Gain a good basic understanding of what malnutrition is.
- Be able to calculate BMI, height from ulna length and percentage weight loss.
- Be able to estimate unplanned weight loss Calculate a “M.U.S.T” score and develop an appropriate care plan
- To deliver nutritional care appropriate to the “individual”
- To be able to evaluate actions and to review and implement changes as necessary
All teaching is in accordance with the regional guidelines and Malnutrition Advisory Group (MAG) Bapen screening tool and 5-step guidelines.
