Syringe Driver Training: McKinley T34™

This half day course aims to provide registered nurses with the knowledge, skills, confidence and competency required to manage, monitor and ensure safe administration of medicines via the continuous subcutaneous infusion route.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the session all participants will be able:

  • To list the indicators, advantages and disadvantages for using syringe drivers
  • To review and gain knowledge of the McKinley T34™ syringe driver, including safety features, care and maintenance and troubleshooting
  • To discuss considerations, accountability and responsibilities
  • To discuss correct record keeping and documentation
  • To gain knowledge of commonly used drugs and indicators for use
  • To discuss suitable sites for the clinical procedure of cannulation
  • To gain confidence and to critically evaluate good practice procedures

Training must be consolidated within the workplace for the candidate to become competent
