Promoting Individuality, Privacy and Dignity

(in Supported Living/Domiciliary Care)

Training course

This study session aims to provide Healthcare staff working with individuals and/or clients who have ‘complex’ healthcare needs within their own home setting.

These patients have ‘poor prognosis’ and in many instances are ‘close to death’. The aim of staff working in this environment is to promote privacy and dignity at all times whilst ensuring that the client’s individuality is maintained, being mindful of other individuals such as care worker family members who may also be involved.

MODULE OBJECTIVES

  • To understand the importance of privacy and dignity.
  • To be able to consider the home environment, family members and ‘family dynamics’.
  • To be able to consider culture and religious beliefs.
  • To understand the importance of respect, confidentiality and behaviour.
  • To be aware of permission and discussion – not ‘assumption’.
  • To understand the individual’s physical and psychological needs.
