This module aims to offer a well-defined programme which will support, encourage and underpin ‘safe practice’

MODULE OBJECTIVES

  • To provide knowledge and updated information regarding relevant legislation. (Inc. NMC guidelines, The Human Medicines Regulations 2012 etc.)
  • To revisit and discuss the importance of effective medicines management and our own accountabilities and responsibilities.
  • To revisit the requirement of all nurses in practice, to provide essential supervision in the workplace and education for all junior staff and peers. Pertaining to observation and monitoring for potential side effects, cautions, adverse reactions and contra-indications and the importance of reporting health & well-being changes.
  • To refresh and discuss the key points in the care, control & administration of medicines – i.e. ‘The 7 Rights’. (Inc. capacity & consent relating to MCA & DoLS, safe storage, disposal procedures etc.)
  • To provide clear guidance as to the expectations of correct documentation and safe record keeping, including care plans, risk assessments, audits etc.

Please note this session is to brought in-house and will involve discussion & questionnaires for evidence of learning for Continued Professional Development.
