Responsibilities for Senior Staff and Managers

This course is appropriate for senior staff, team leaders and Managers across ALL sectors of care provision.

It has been highlighted and reported nationally that there is a lack of training and understanding of the full implications and necessities in adhering to the current safeguards and reporting systems in relation to capacity assessments.

This course aims to provide candidates with up-to-date information about the Act and the implications within their work environment, to focus on individuals’ rights, accountabilities and responsibilities.

COURSE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • To understand the Act in detail, (Inc. Advance Directives, LPAs, Deputies, Court of Protection & IMCAs etc)
  • To gain confidence in understanding the legislation and your responsibilities & accountabilities
  • To consider the implications of the Act and to gain awareness of the code of practice
  • To understand the 5 key principles of the MCA
  • To know when and how to test for capacity and when to refer on
  • To understand the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) including when to refer for authorisation, mapping to Safeguarding training
  • To be aware of the DoLS updates following changes in March 2014 – (Supreme Court Ruling)
  • To understand the importance of documentation in relation to capacity and DoLS
  • To enable discussion and reflection, as to the practicalities of applying this legislation in the workplace and obtaining safeguarding authorisation as needed.
