Managing Behaviour that Challenges

This module provides an understanding of the functions of challenging behaviour and ways in which care workers can improve the lifestyles of people who present with these behaviours.

Course objectives

  • To understand fully the definition of challenging behaviour and to be aware of individual capacity
  • To gain an understanding of a range of ways to improve the lifestyles of those individuals who present with challenging behaviour, to incorporate inclusion, equality and diversity.
  • To be able to respond positively and identify underlying needs.
  • To be aware of positive behaviour management techniques, including behaviour mapping, ABC and positive risk management.
  • To understand the importance of maintaining safety in the workplace, relating to lone and team working
  • To be aware of the importance of the staff member maintaining professional boundaries and utilising supervision effectively to manage stress in the workplace
  • To gain skills in management strategies, including de-escalation techniques.
  • To gain an understanding of organisational policy and procedures.
