Falls Prevention Training

This half day course is aimed at staff working within the health and social care sector to raise awareness of the enormous impact for an individual of falling and potentially suffering a serious injury. Also to consider the impact and implications for the care provider.

Falls Prevention is high on the agenda for the NHS – both within the acute and primary care sector and also the social care sector (CQC). During this course we aim to help candidates recognise and consider individual risk factors and how we can significantly reduce the risk of falling for clients whilst still promoting choice, independence and helping them maintain quality of life.

MODULE OBJECTIVES

  • To consider why falls prevention is so important throughout the Health and social care sectors (includes government statistics)
  • To be aware of the “most vulnerable”/high risk individuals within primary care settings
  • To consider and review “risk factors” and subsequently be able to understand the importance of “Multifactorial Falls Risk Assessment” and when this should be undertaken.
  • To be aware of how the “aging process” makes individuals more vulnerable to falling (to incl. osteoporosis and fractures)
  • To consider how risk factors may be reduced for our clients/patients: including the value of health promotion, good nutrition, hydration and exercise, safe environment and regular review can lead to “preventing a fall”

[This course may also be combined within the annual Moving and Handling update if required; please contact us for cost  - this would be a 4-hour course]
