Promoting Privacy and Dignity In Personal Care

- To discuss and understand what privacy, dignity and  respect mean to the people we care for and support and actively supporting and promoting dignity within the care or support environment.

The session will include:

  • Discussing what “ privacy” and “dignity” mean and the importance of respecting privacy and dignity
  • How an individual’s dignity may be affected when supported with personal care
  • The importance of respect, confidentiality and behaviour
  • Permission and discussion – not assumption
  • Understanding the person’s physical, social  and psychological needs
  • Potential Infection control issues
  • Relevant legislation: e.g. human rights, Health & Safety at Work Act.
  • Looking at ways we can actively promote dignity in care
