This half-day module concentrates on de-escalation techniques and procedures as part of managing challenging behaviour.

This course may be delivered in addition to the Challenging Behaviour training session or can be offered as a “stand alone” course

MODULE OBJECTIVES

• To review an understanding of challenging behaviours
• To identify the impact challenging behaviours can have on our individual responses
• To gain an understanding of the use of communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, within de-escalation techniques
• To recognise the signs of aggression
• To learn de-escalation strategies and techniques to effectively manage aggression and prevent violence from escalating (prevention and defusion)
• Recognising the importance of “personal safety”
• Recording, reporting and documentation
